Mitral Valve Prolapse

To learn about the disease called Mitral Valve Prolapse and the current data regarding prognosis and treatmentâ€¦â€¦â€¦â€¦

II. DEFINITION (5 pts)

Mitral Valve Prolapse or Click-Murmur Syndrome is a common life-long disorder by the displacement of an abnormally thickened valve leaflet into the left atrium by systole. Many people do not realize they have MVP.

III. CHARACTERISTIC OF THE DISEASE (10 pts)

A.SIGNS AND SYSTOMS

(+) Fatigue and Lightheadedness

(+) Chest Pain or Discomfort

(+) Arrhythmia due to Rapid Heart beat (Papilations)

(+) Dyspnea= Shortness of Breath

EPIDEMIOLOGY

Mitral Valve Prolapse

According to the American Heart Association Journal, MVP has an equal distribution amongst the sexes. MVP can develop at any age and can run in families through other conditions. MVP has affected aprroximately 2-3% of the population in the United States. In older studies, MVP cases are more prevalent in women and older ages.

Mitral Valve Prolapse is when the mitral valve slips backward loosely into the left atrium.

V. DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT (20 pts)

Diagnosis is through an oral glucose tolerance test . . . .Treatment is with

diet at first, then diabetic drugs such as Glubocef is maintained. For DiabeticType II, insulin injections are necessaryâ€¦â€¦â€¦â€¦

New treatments and modes of diagnosis were developed such asâ€¦â€¦â€¦â€¦.

VI. PROGNOSIS (10 pts)

The long term effect of Diabetes is Kidney failure within 10 years and blindness within 7 years . . . . . . . . . . . . . .OR

Breast cancer patients who are diagnosed with stage 1-2 without chemotheraphy and

radiotheraphy, 85% of the patients die within 5 years . . . . . . . .

There is a 72% correlation to inherited factors with DM Type II. About 45% of the obese population will suffer from Diabetes Mellitusâ€¦â€¦.

In conclusion, the Type II Diabetes is most likely to have insulin injections necessary, some are inserted inside the skin and automatic infusion of insulin is done . . . . . .
