“Local governments are increasingly involved with events, seeing them as important means of creating quality of life for their constituents, and attracting tourism and economic benefits to their regions” (Allen, et al, 2011, p. 33). 

As the newly appointed Events Coordinator at a local council in regional Australia, your manager has asked you to write a 1,500-word report to support the development of a new annual festival in the town. The theme of the festival is to be either music or food.

 Your report will be tabled at the next council meeting and should include evidence and arguments as to why the local council should provide your Department with the resources you need to develop the event.

 Reference should be made to stakeholder theory and /or triple bottom line reporting to set the discussion in a broader context. 

Reference should be made to at least two other regional events to support your argument (See below for some examples of music or food related events supported by local government). 

In your report, make sure that the evidence you provide supports the conclusions you draw. Students can refer to any examples of regional events in Australia, which are supported by local government.
