It has been thirty years since the PATCO strike, often considered one of the most significant events in modern labor relations. Please read the vignette on page 105 of the textbook and then read the NY Time’s article “The Strike that Busted Unions.”

Reflect on the following questions:

In Chapter 1, we discussed equity as one of the three cornerstones of employee relations. Do you believe that the use of replacement workers during the PATCO strike as well as other strikes is equitable?
Was President Reagan justified in the discharge of the union members?
What do you see as the lingering effects of this practice?
