Contemporary American culture has not undermined patriotism yet, but we are close. When we see real heroes in action, they inspire us to emulate their lives. In America, we thirst off heroes, but a society that misguidedly worships celebrities, that allows the end to justify the means, or that entertains resentment and rage will create the wrong examples of heroes and citizens with the wrong kind of character. Sadly, we sometimes choose poor role models. In the Middle East, its Osama bin Laden or Yasser Arafat. They are celebrated, they are “great leaders”, and in America, we have Adolf Hitler named as one of a great leader, but none are great men. Fidelity also incorporates honesty and truth. What you see is what you get. We are the number one article, someone who can always be counted on. As humans, we are committed to the goals when it comes to us being in teams. “Fidelity means the absolute truth and integrity of one’s spirit. Obedience involves many aspects of an individual’s character. It first needs humility, a willingness to subordinate our interests for the common good. Before we can give orders, we must be able to follow orders.
